The Ministry of Finance has secured a major infrastructure boost for Kumasi, announcing the signing of a ¥3 billion (Japanese Yen) grant agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the improvement of the city’s Inner Ring Road.

The Inner Ring Road, which connects the N6 and N8 highways and forms part of the Takoradi/Tema Ports–Ouagadougou Corridor, has long faced challenges of congestion, delays, and safety concerns due to rising traffic volumes.

According to the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the new project will directly tackle these issues by:

1. Widening 3.2 km of road between Santasi and Ahodwo Roundabouts,

2. Upgrading intersections with modern traffic signals,

3. Improving pedestrian walkways and drainage systems, and

4. Enhancing connectivity between Santasi Roundabout and the N8.

Dr. Ato Forson revealed the works will deliver a remarkable transformation, with travel speeds expected to more than triple, journey times cut drastically, and smoother movement of both passengers and goods.

He expressed appreciation to JICA for what it described as a “generous support and continued partnership with Ghana.”
