The Coalition of Concerned Nurses and Midwives is calling on the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to pay all outstanding salary arrears owed to health workers by the end of October 2025.
Speaking on the Happy Morning Show, Osman Baba, a former National Financial Secretary of the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association, appealed to the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to ensure that at least part of the arrears is included in this month’s salary payment.
“We expect that at least he should include that in October’s salary even if we will not receive all our arrears. But this month they should pay us, so that November, as it is claimed, they will include that in the budget,” he said.
Mr. Baba explained that even a partial settlement would demonstrate goodwill and help the government plan adequately for full payment in subsequent months. He also commended the Minister’s recent amnesty initiative for midwives, describing it as a positive and relieving gesture for affected personnel.
The Coalition’s appeal follows ongoing concerns among nurses and midwives who have reportedly gone several months without pay despite being posted and actively working in various health facilities across the country.
