The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nsawam Adoagyiri, Selorm Fummey Philibert, has pledged to mobilize resources to strengthen disaster preparedness and response efforts in the municipality.

Speaking at an event to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDR), the MCE emphasized that disaster management cannot rely solely on government allocations but requires a proactive, locally driven approach.

“We will raise funds for the municipality so that security agencies can access them,” he said, adding that effective disaster response depends on sustainable local funding and coordination

Mr. Philibert urged departments, organizations, and community leaders to prioritize resilience-building initiatives and support the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in fulfilling its mandate.

He noted that disasters, whether natural or human-induced, have far-reaching effects on lives and livelihoods, and therefore, “prevention and preparedness must be treated as collective responsibilities.”

The MCE also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration among security agencies and community-based structures to enhance early warning systems and rapid response capabilities.

The event brought together representatives from NADMO, security agencies, traditional authorities, and civil society, all reiterating the importance of disaster risk reduction in protecting lives and sustaining development.
