Global Media Alliance (GMA), in partnership with Women in PR (WiPR) Ghana, has once again held its annual Read4Her Future literacy and mentorship initiative, a programme designed to empower young girls through the joy of reading and self-expression.

The 2025 edition took place on Friday, 10th October 2025, at Dzorwulu A & B Primary School in Accra, bringing together 100 girls from Primary 4 to 6 to celebrate the power, confidence, and leadership of girls through reading, reflection, and mentorship. The event was held ahead of the International Day of the Girl Child, observed globally on October 11.

Centered on the global theme “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis,” this year’s edition of Read4Her Future inspired the girls to see themselves as leaders and change-makers, capable of making a difference in their schools and communities.
The day’s activities were lively and interactive, as mentors from GMA and WiPR guided the girls through the reading of the book Afi and Kodjo:

A key highlight was the introduction of Reading Ambassadors, girls selected to promote reading among their peers. Led by the MC, Mrs Eunice Dede Tornyi, the ambassadors pledged to encourage their classmates to read and lead with confidence.
Emma Wenani, Chief Director of Global Media Alliance, shared her delight at the success of this year’s event and the continued impact of the initiative. “At Global Media Alliance, we believe reading opens doors to confidence and leadership. Seeing how Read4Her Future continues to inspire girls to read, learn, and express themselves reminds us why this project is so important,” she said.
Edinam Adjei-Sika, Event and Programme Lead at Women in PR Ghana, also highlighted the alignment between the initiative and this year’s theme. “This year’s theme, ‘The girl I am, the change I lead,’ reminds us that girls are not just future leaders, they are leaders now, capable of driving change in their communities,”

Headmistress of Dzorwulu A & B Primary School, Madam Mamunatu Awudu, expressed deep appreciation to the organisers for selecting her school and inspiring the girls. Madam Mamunatu said, “Today, you have motivated our girls to read more, believe in themselves, and dream bigger. We thank you for investing in their confidence and their future.”

After the reading and ambassador pledges, Global Media Alliance donated copies of Afi and Kodjo: A Christmas Discovery to the school’s library to establish a Read4Her Future Corner, and presented a large basket of fruits to mark the school’s Fruits Day celebration.

Women in PR Ghana complemented this gesture by donating sanitary pads to the girls and holding a short talk on menstrual health, encouraging them to be confident, supportive, and kind to one another.

The author of the book, Ophelia Mawuena Ammamoo, also delivered an inspiring talk, sharing how her quiet personality led her to discover storytelling as a way to express herself and inspire others. The day ended joyfully with refreshments sponsored by Cowbell.
Read4Her Future is a literacy and mentorship initiative powered by Global Media Alliance and Women in PR Ghana. It empowers young girls through reading, builds confidence, and nurtures leadership skills to help them shape a brighter future.
