Ghana’s basketball powerhouse, Spintex Knights, have secured qualification to the Elite 16 stage of the Road to Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2026, following an impressive campaign in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Their qualification marks another historic milestone — the first Ghanaian club to reach the Elite 16 for the second time, cementing their growing status among Africa’s emerging basketball teams.

The Knights, who entered the competition as Ghana’s national champions, faced a tough group featuring Jeunesse Club d’Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Elan Coton (Benin), and LPRC Oilers (Liberia).

They began their campaign with a narrow defeat to Jeunesse Club d’Abidjan but quickly bounced back with a statement 68–58 win over LPRC Oilers.

The victory revived their Elite 16 hopes and showcased the team’s signature defensive intensity, disciplined ball movement, and fast-break efficiency.

In the decisive final game, Spintex overcame Elan Coton 63-53 in a thrilling contest that confirmed their qualification.

The official Spintex Knights Instagram page (@spintexknights) captured the moment perfectly, posting:

“After an epic three days of intense basketball, your Spintex Knights have officially advanced to the Elite 16 of the Road to BAL Championship. The journey continues. 🇬🇭🏀”

Throughout the qualifiers, James Amotoe proved instrumental once again, leading the offense with consistent scoring and creativity.

His driving layups and transition baskets turned key moments around, while captain Elvis Pobi-Siaw provided composure and leadership.

Coach Selorm Thomas guided the team with tactical precision, emphasizing unity and adaptability.

By reaching the Elite 16 again, Spintex Knights have reaffirmed their place as one of West Africa’s most competitive clubs.

Their achievement represents not just a triumph for the team but a milestone for Ghanaian basketball, proving that local talent and organization can compete with some of the continent’s best.

The Elite 16 round, set to take place later this year, will bring together top sides from across Africa.

The Knights will now prepare for another challenging test, one that could see them take the next step toward the Basketball Africa League main season.

Spintex Knights’ back-to-back runs to the Elite 16 are reshaping perceptions of Ghanaian basketball. With consistent domestic dominance, strong leadership, and national support, the “Nobles” continue to fly the Ghanaian flag high on the African stage.
