Agona Abodom chieftaincy clash: 50 suspects, including self-styled Chief, remanded to reappear on Nov 4

Fifty suspects, including a self-styled chief, Kwesi Gyan, have been remanded in police custody in connection with the violent chieftaincy clash that rocked Agona Abodom in the Central Region, leading to the death of a civilian employee of the Ghana Police Service.

The accused persons were arraigned before the Achimota District Court on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, where they were denied bail and remanded to reappear on November 4, 2025.

Police prosecutors opposed bail on grounds that releasing the suspects could pose a serious threat to public safety.

Intelligence reports suggest that their return to the community might trigger renewed violence, as tensions remain high between rival factions.

The suspects were arrested during a dawn swoop on Tuesday, October 14, by officers from the Homicide Unit of the Ghana Police Service, following weeks of investigations into the brutal killing of Charles Kojo Asomaning, a civilian staff member at the Police Headquarters and uncle to the legitimate chief of Agona Abodom, Nana Kwesi Asare, also known as Nana Segu.

Police say the coordinated operation targeted key actors linked to the August 2 disturbances, which left one person dead and several others injured.

Residents have since expressed fear, alleging that loyalists of the self-styled chief are still within the community and planning to retaliate should their detained allies regain freedom.
