The Eastern Regional Police Command has arraigned thirty-four (34) suspects, including six (6) chiefs, in connection with violent disturbances that occurred at Ahwerase in the Akuapem South Municipality during a ritual to lift the ban on noise-making ahead of the Odwira Festival.

The incident reportedly led to the death of one person, identified as Isaac Nana Kwasi, and left three others injured.

The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment at the Aburi KOM Presbyterian Hospital, while the body of the deceased has been deposited for preservation and autopsy.

According to a statement signed by the Superintendent of Police in charge of Public Affairs for the Eastern Region, Ebenezer Tetteh, the suspects were charged with rioting with offensive weapons and causing unlawful harm.

The police recovered two weapons at the scene, a Umarex Pistol (No. MP160407589) and a Cyborg Magnum Force Pump Action gun (No. 602-H25YT-516), along with four live and four spent pump-action cartridges.

Authorities say the situation in the area is currently calm, and police officers are closely monitoring events to prevent any further disturbances.

Superintendent Ebenezer Tetteh assured the general public that the police will continue to maintain law and order before, during, and after the Odwira Festival to ensure peace and tranquility.

He added that the public will be updated as investigations continue.
