Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George has expressed optimism in the forming of a number of bills proposed by the ministry to enhance digital technology and innovation in Ghana.

The Minister in a social media statement indicated that a designated team are facilitating deliberations between the ministry and key stakeholders which include representatives of the public.

The bills which include the Data Harmonisation Bill, the Electronic Communications Bill, and the Emerging Technologies Bill, which sets out to regulate innovations are described as policies that the public is privy to and are majorly involved to ensure the formation of an efficient law that will be to the benefit of all Ghanaians. “I have also seen some posts suggesting that the Ministry is ‘sneaking’ various intentions into various legislation.

“How do we sneak something we have openly shared with the public for input?” George said. “This is the most democratic law-making process in our public sector that I can recall. Releasing drafts through multiple channels and allowing your voice and opinion to be heard.” he added.

The Ministry of Communication, according to its head, is set to receive all views on the 14 draft bills and process them into the final Bills that would now go to Cabinet, the AG and finally Parliament for further scrutiny. “Let’s work together to make our laws work for us all. Like my late big brother, Omane Boamah, would say: ‘Organise, not agonise!’ ”

The team has received some valuable input and received requests from key stakeholders for extensions.

I have also seen some posts suggesting that the Ministry is…
