The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the upcoming CAVB Zone III Volleyball Club Championship, which Ghana will host from March 1–8, 2026.

The championship, themed “Uniting West Africa Through Volleyball Excellence,” will bring together over 48 clubs from across West Africa, including teams from Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, Niger, Togo, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Liberia.

The newly formed LOC will be chaired by Dr. Austin W. Luguterah, with Emmanuel A. Quainoo serving as Secretary. Other key members include Yaw Sakyi, Head of Marketing, Logistics, and Operations, and George Tetteh, President of the Ghana Volleyball Federation (GVF).

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Minister Kofi Adams praised the renewed efforts to elevate volleyball’s profile in the country, describing the event as a chance to rekindle national passion for the sport.

“Volleyball used to attract a lot of attention. It went down, but it’s picking up again, and I’m happy for that,” he said. “Hosting this championship is another opportunity for us to highlight our commitment to other sports and give it the publicity it deserves.”

Dr. Luguterah reaffirmed the committee’s readiness to deliver a world-class tournament, pledging to ensure every detail meets international standards.

“Our task is to plan, organise, and deliver a championship that will make Ghana proud. We’re focused on mobilizing all necessary resources—human, technical, and financial—to achieve that,” he noted.

Also present was Bernard Mornah, President of Kalibi Volleyball Club, who expressed optimism about Ghana’s capacity to host a successful event.

“If other countries and their clubs have done it, we are capable of doing the same. We’re happy with the state’s support through the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” he said.

The CAVB Zone III Volleyball Club Championship promises to be one of West Africa’s biggest volleyball events next year a vibrant week-long showcase of athleticism, teamwork, and regional unity.
