The Western Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service in Tarkwa has rescued a 15-year-old Nigerian girl who was trafficked into Ghana for sexual exploitation.
A statement released on Wednesday, November 5, said the rescue followed a complaint from the victim’s father, Ogbonna Onuigbo, after the girl who went missing in Nigeria in October 2025, contacted him on October 24 to say she had been trafficked and was being abused in Ghana.
Twenty-five-year-old Joy Ogbonna was arrested at Aboso near Tarkwa on Monday, November 3, 2025, in connection with the case.
According to investigators, a woman identified as Golden Blessing, currently at large lured the victim from Enugu to Lagos with the promise of a cleaning job, then handed her to Ogbonna, who transported her to Tarkwa.
Police say the girl was confined, forced into sex work, and her earnings collected by the suspects.
The victim was rescued after she managed to contact her father with the assistance of a passerby.
A medical examination confirmed she is approximately five weeks pregnant. Joy Ogbonna is in police custody and will be arraigned in court.
Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest Golden Blessing, who is believed to be in Nigeria.
