The Member of Parliament for Pusiga, Ayamba Ayii Laadi, has stirred reactions in Parliament after declaring that the tragic deaths recorded at the El-Wak Military Sports Facility were “ordained by God.”

Speaking on the floor of Parliament following a statement by Acting Defence Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on the incident, Mrs. Laadi said the victims’ deaths were part of divine destiny and urged Ghanaians to take solace in the Almighty Allah.

“Today was their day ordained for them to die. There is nothing that happens that doesn’t happen at the right time. This is what the Almighty Allah has ordained for them. Even if all the presidents of the world were present, once today was their day, they would have died,” she said.

She further cautioned against blaming officers who supervised the recruitment exercise, insisting that no one intended harm.

“It is not anybody who wanted them to die. There is no single officer there who wanted even one single soul to pass,” she emphasized.

Mrs. Laadi’s comments came after Dr. Ato Forson confirmed that six people died and 34 others were injured during a stampede at the El-Wak Military Sports Facility in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, during the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise.

According to the Acting Defence Minister, five of the injured are in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 12 are fairly critical and the rest remain stable and under observation.

He added that the recruitment process in the Greater Accra Region had been suspended until further notice, while an internal Board of Inquiry has been set up to investigate the cause of the incident.
