CEMSE Questions Government’s Commitment Ahead of 2026 Budget Presentation

The Executive Director of the Center for Environmental Management and Sustainable Energy (CEMSE), Benjamin Nsiah, has cast doubt on the credibility of the 2026 Budget, which is expected to be presented to Parliament today by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Speaking on the Happy Morning Show with Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah, Mr. Nsiah argued that the government has yet to honor several key commitments outlined in the 2025 Budget, raising concerns about its ability to deliver on new promises.

He pointed to unfulfilled energy-sector projects, including the relocation of four AMERI power units and the planned addition of 132 megawatts of capacity at the Takoradi Thermal Plant.

“We’re not expecting anything different from the previous budget,” he said. “If the government couldn’t implement major initiatives in 2025, then it becomes difficult to trust that new commitments will be fulfilled.”

Mr. Nsiah emphasized that consistent delays in executing energy-sector projects have broader consequences for economic stability and sustainable development, urging the government to prioritize delivery over rhetoric.
