Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, on Thursday, 13th November 2025, strongly defended the approval of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, during parliamentary debate on the Appointments Committee’s report.

Dr. Ayine said the House has a constitutional responsibility under Article 144 to consider and approve a qualified nominee for the position of Chief Justice. He stressed that the judiciary requires continuous and credible leadership and cautioned that any delay in the approval process could hinder the effective administration of justice.

The Attorney-General highlighted Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s extensive experience on the Supreme Court, describing him as a principled and seasoned jurist whose competence and integrity make him well-suited to lead the judiciary.

Addressing objections raised by the Minority over pending court cases related to the removal of the former Chief Justice, Dr. Ayine argued that the existence of legal challenges does not prevent Parliament from discharging its constitutional duties. He noted that the courts are independent and fully capable of determining those matters without halting parliamentary processes.
