The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has revealed that the government will invest GH¢828 million in 2026 to construct 1,000 kilometres of agricultural enclave roads. The move is aimed at improving access to farmlands, easing the transportation of produce, and ultimately reducing food inflation.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement on Thursday, November 13, under the theme “Resetting for Growth, Jobs, and Economic Transformation,” Dr. Forson noted that poor feeder roads have long been cited by farmers as a major driver of high food prices, due to increased transportation costs and post-harvest losses.

He emphasised that strengthening road infrastructure remains central to boosting trade, enhancing food distribution, and supporting social mobility.

According to the Minister, as of September 2025, a total of 268 road projects, covering 8,300 kilometres of roads and bridges, were under construction nationwide. He highlighted notable progress on key national corridors, including:

Accra–Kumasi dualisation – 64% complete

Takoradi–Agona Nkwanta–Elubo Highway – 72% complete

Eastern Corridor (Dodo-Pepesu to Nkwanta-Damanko sections) – 80% complete

“These improvements are strengthening connectivity across the Oti and Northern Regions,” Dr. Forson said.

He further referenced ongoing upgrades on other strategic routes such as the Tema, Akosombo Highway (58% complete) and the Bolgatanga–Bawku–Pulmakom Road (95% complete) projects expected to significantly boost Ghana’s trade links with Burkina Faso.
