The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT) has opposed the Education Ministry’s decision to recruit only 6,100 teachers, insisting that the government must employ all 2023 College of Education graduates who remain jobless.
A press statement dated November 20, 2025, expressed the group’s frustration over the announcement by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, arguing that it does not reflect the scale of unemployment among trained teachers nationwide.
According to the coalition, more than 17,000 qualified graduates have been left idle since completing their studies, making the announced recruitment figure inadequate and unfair.
“Every qualified graduate deserves an opportunity to serve in Ghana’s education sector. We cannot accept a system that leaves thousands behind without clarity or equity,” the statement said.
CUTT has called on the Education Minister to immediately explain how the 6,100 teachers will be selected, questioning whether the process would follow a clear protocol.
“The Minister must provide a roadmap. Will recruitment follow a fair system or will the process eliminate deserving graduates through unclear tactics?” the coalition demanded.
The group also criticised Mr. Iddrisu for describing them as “striking teachers,” stating that they are not employed anywhere to be on strike.
“We are not striking teachers. We are unemployed trained graduates demanding employment. The Minister must understand our situation,” they clarified.
