The Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly says it has begun implementing measures to tackle persistent traffic congestion within the municipality, especially along the busy Kaneshie–Circle stretch.

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Frank Nkansah, speaking on Epa Hoa Daben with Bismark Brown, disclosed that, the assembly is collaborating with the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council to introduce tighter traffic controls. As part of the measures, the assembly has directed its municipal taskforce to stop commercial drivers from parking by the shoulders of the road, a major cause of gridlock in the area.

Nkansah warned that drivers who flout the directive will be fined.

He added that the assembly is also engaging stakeholders in the transport section to ensure lasting compliance and improve traffic flow. Beyond easing congestion, the MCE said the assembly intends to beautify the Kaneshie–Circle corridor by repainting selected buildings.

Mr. Nkansah further revealed that, the construction of a modern Zongo market has begun in the municipality. The new facility will include a clinic, police post, and crèche, and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

“This market will not just be a trading centre; it will provide essential services and security for the community,” he assured.
