The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has interdicted six of its officers after a viral video emerged showing them verbally assaulting a superior officer at the Offinso Inland Checkpoint in the Ashanti Region.

The incident, which occurred on 25th November 2025, captured the officers openly disrespecting a Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) who was travelling as a passenger in a commercial vehicle.

In the video, the officers on duty engaged in verbal exchanges marked by aggression, lack of civility and blatant insubordination.

In a press release issued by the Public Affairs Department, the Service described the behaviour as “gross misconduct” and a clear violation of the Ghana Immigration Service Code of Conduct.

It emphasised that such actions fall far below the standards expected of officers, especially in the handling of travellers and the execution of official duties.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI) reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to its core values of professionalism, integrity and respect for authority, stressing that any conduct that undermines these values will be met with “swift and decisive action.”

Management has since commenced investigations in accordance with the Ghana Immigration Service Regulations, 2016 (L.I. 2245), and has assured the public that appropriate measures will be taken against all involved.

The Service also expressed regret over the embarrassment and inconvenience caused to the public and pledged to uphold the highest standards of discipline and accountability in carrying out its mandate.

Further updates will be provided upon the conclusion of investigations.
