The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has pushed back against criticisms directed at the government over the poor performance in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), stressing that public discussion should focus on the causes of the decline rather than blame-shifting.
Speaking at the National Launch of the STEMBox for Basic Schools under the theme “STEM in Every Classroom: Reimagining STEM Education for All,” held at the Osu Presby Church Forecourt on Thursday, December 4, the minister said it was only in Ghana that students receive praise when they excel, but governments are held responsible when outcomes fall short.
He noted that the Ministry of Education is currently reviewing the examiners’ report to understand the factors behind the students’ performance.
He assured that the ministry would respond appropriately and satisfactorily once the review is complete and the necessary actions identified.
Haruna Iddrisu emphasised that the government’s commitment to delivering quality education under President John Dramani Mahama remains unwavering.
He said the President will continue to demonstrate strong leadership in advancing educational reforms in the coming days.
