41st National Farmer’s Day: Togbe Afede XIV urges Ghanaians to support local farmers

Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State in the Volta Region, has called on Ghanaians to prioritize locally produced food to boost the nation’s economy and ensure future security.

He made the remarks as Chairman of the 41st National Farmer’s Day celebration in the Volta Region, held under the theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.”

In his address, Togbe Afede XIV emphasized that the theme captures the essence of the celebration by recognizing the vital role farmers play in national development.

“When we eat what we produce in Ghana, we encourage our farmers to produce more. This growth contributes directly to our economy and strengthens the security of our nation,” he said.

Highlighting the contributions of farmers, the Agbogbomefia noted that agriculture employs nearly 44% of Ghana’s labor force and serves as a major source of foreign exchange through crops like cocoa.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the sector, including declines in key crops, but stressed that the celebration serves as an inspiration for farmers to continue their work.

Togbe Afede XIV also urged citizens to commit to consuming Ghanaian produce, reinforcing the message that supporting local agriculture is a shared responsibility.

He added that the government has a role to play in facilitating growth in the agricultural sector and promoting investment to sustain its contribution to the economy.

“Let’s remind ourselves: we have to eat Ghana so we can grow Ghana and secure the future of Ghana,” said urging all stakeholders to unite in support of the country’s farmers.
