The Ministry of the Interior has launched a full-scale investigation into claims that the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, has survived two assassination attempts while performing his duties.
The Ministry’s response follows revelations made by the Director of Strategy, Research, and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Samuel Appiah Darko.
Mr. Appiah Darko also claimed that he had been handcuffed and physically assaulted by 17 police officers.
In a statement issued by the Ministry, authorities expressed concern about the security implications of the allegations, noting that if true, such threats against key accountability officers could weaken the government’s ongoing anti-corruption efforts.
The Ministry outlined preliminary findings, revealing that initial engagements with Mr. Agyebeng indicated that the alleged assassination attempts occurred before 2025.
Additionally, the Ministry stated that no formal report of threats on the Special Prosecutor’s life exists at any police station or national security institution.
Despite this, the Minister for the Interior has directed immediate action on the matter, ordering:
1.A comprehensive investigation into the alleged assassination attempts, noting that “crime does not expire.”
2.A separate investigation into Mr. Appiah Darko’s claim that he was handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.
The Ministry assured the public that updates will be provided upon completion of the investigations and appropriate actions will be taken.
“The Ministry of the Interior reiterates its commitment to protecting all lives and property to ensure that all Ghanaians can conduct their lawful affairs without fear for their safety,” the statement added.
