Resident doctors in England are considering whether to accept a new government offer on working conditions which reports say could avert a strike planned for later this month the British Medical Association (BMA) announced Wednesday.
The strike, if it goes ahead, is scheduled for December 17 to 22.
This is the latest in a long line of industrial actions by doctors that have disrupted services across the National Health Service (NHS) in England.
Earlier this year, resident doctors went on strike from July 25 to 30, and again from November 14 to 19 making 2025 one of the busiest years for walkouts in the profession’s recent history.
Under the new government proposal, officials reportedly offered reforms to working conditions, career progression, and training cost support. However, reports say the offer falls short of addressing the core issues of pay erosion and job security that triggered the initial strike wave.
Doctors now face a tough decision, accept partial reforms, or proceed with the walkout, forcing the NHS and patients to brace for disruption during the busy pre-Christmas period.
