The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has officially commissioned the new office complex of the Ghana Police Co-Operative Credit Union located at the Police Hospital in Accra.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday, December 16, the IGP emphasized that the commissioning is more than the opening of a building.
He described it as a milestone that embodies “vision, discipline, collective effort, and financial empowerment” within the Ghana Police Service.
The Ghana Police Co-Operative Credit Union was established to address the financial well-being of police officers and their families. According to the IGP, policing is a demanding profession, often involving risk, stress, irregular working hours, and sacrifices that go largely unnoticed by the public.
In response, the credit union has emerged as a self-help financial institution grounded in cooperative principles of mutual support, shared responsibility, and collective progress.
Over the years, the union has grown from modest beginnings to become a trusted financial partner for thousands of officers, providing loans, encouraging savings, and supporting education, housing, healthcare, and emergency needs.
The IGP noted that the commissioning of the new office marks a defining chapter in the institutional development of the Ghana Police Co-Operative Union, underscoring that discipline, transparency, and collective commitment can lead to remarkable achievements, even amid challenging economic conditions.
He further described the building as a symbol of confidence, a beacon of trust, and a testament to the capacity of police officers to manage their welfare institutions responsibly and sustainably.
Highlighting the broader significance of the initiative, the IGP explained that security extends beyond uniforms, patrols, and weapons, emphasizing the importance of welfare, dignity, and financial stability for officers.
He added that the modern facility will provide a conducive environment for staff, support modern banking and cooperative operations, and reinforce public and member confidence in the financial ecosystem.
The strategic location of the office at the Police Hospital in Accra was also described as both symbolic and practical, representing the credibility and strength of cooperative institutions built on trust.
