The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its surrounding communities in the North East Region following incidents of arson and threats of further attacks in the regional capital.

The deployment comes after some youth allegedly set two houses ablaze in Nalerigu and issued threats to burn additional houses and attack residents, raising security concerns in the area.

In a press release issued and signed by DSP Robert Anabiik Anmain, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the North East Regional Police Command on Thursday, December 18, 2025, the Ghana Police Service said the security reinforcement is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and strengthening security in the affected communities.

The move will also ensure the effective enforcement of the curfew imposed on Nalerigu and its environs by the government.

According to the Police, the reinforcement teams will work closely with the North East Regional Police Command to intensify security operations, including enhanced patrols on major highways to guarantee the safety of commuters and road users.

The Police Command assured the general public, particularly residents of Nalerigu, that investigations into the attacks and the burning of the houses are ongoing, adding that all persons involved will be arrested and brought to justice.
