The Volta North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the National Insurance Commission (NIC), has engaged various drivers’ unions in the Hohoe Municipality as part of preparations for the Christmas and New Year festivities.

The engagement, held at the Hohoe lorry station, was aimed at encouraging drivers to exercise maximum caution before, during and after the festive season, a period usually characterised by increased vehicular movement across the country.

Addressing the drivers, the Volta North MTTD Commander stressed that drivers carry a critical responsibility during the festive period due to the surge in travel, and must therefore ensure that passengers reach their destinations safely and without incident.

The Commander particularly advised night drivers embarking on long journeys to take adequate rest before travelling, noting that fatigue remains one of the leading causes of road traffic accidents in Ghana.

Other resource persons at the engagement urged drivers to strictly adhere to road safety regulations and adopt defensive driving techniques to help reduce road accidents.

Drivers were also reminded of the importance of ensuring that their vehicles are properly insured before being put on the road.

On his part, the Volta North Operations Commander, ASP Abednago Amoah, commended drivers in the region for their commitment to safe driving practices, which he said had contributed to the absence of recorded car accidents in the region for the year 2025.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service and its partners to promote road safety and protect lives during the festive season.
