The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Headquarters, in collaboration with Guinness Ghana PLC and with support from the Public Affairs Directorate (PAD) of the Ghana Police Service, has embarked on a one-week joint road safety campaign aimed at promoting responsible driving during the festive season.

According a statement shared on the official Facebook page of the Service, the initiative focuses on encouraging safe road use, reducing incidents of drunk driving, and curbing speed-related crashes at a time when vehicular traffic is expected to increase significantly.

As part of the campaign, the joint team visited key road corridors including the Accra–Nsawam–Kumasi Highway (N6) and the Anyaa–Awoshie Road, where motorists were sensitised on the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as the importance of adhering to stipulated speed limits.

Drivers were advised to ensure they drive without any form of impairment and to prioritise the safety of all road users, especially during the busy festive period.

In a show of encouragement, motorists who were tested with breathalysers and found to be negative were rewarded with branded T-shirts and other souvenirs bearing inscriptions such as “Your Eye for Clear” and “Don’t Booze, Just Cruise!”.

Many motorists expressed appreciation to the Ghana Police Service, particularly the MTTD, and Guinness Ghana PLC for the initiative, describing it as timely and educative.

Police say the road safety exercise will be extended to other major road corridors across the country, adding that further updates on the campaign will be communicated in due course.
