The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has lauded Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his immense contributions to national development, humanitarian service and the global promotion of Ghanaian culture.

Speaking during the historic visit of the Asantehene to the National Police Headquarters, the IGP said Otumfuo’s influence extends far beyond peace and security, touching the lives of thousands of vulnerable people across the country through education, culture and social intervention.

Mr. Yohuno highlighted the impact of the Otumfuo Education Fund, noting that thousands of vulnerable but brilliant students across Ghana have been supported to pursue their education, thereby expanding access to learning and improving social mobility.

He further praised Otumfuo’s role as Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), describing his leadership as a bridge between tradition and academia.

According to the IGP, the Asantehene has ensured that cultural heritage coexists with innovation, research and modern scholarship, particularly in the areas of culture, diaspora relations and global influences.

The IGP described Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as a global symbol of African culture, whose influence resonates far beyond Ghana’s borders.

He cited cultural preservation initiatives such as the Manhyia Palace Museum and Otumfuo’s active engagement with the African diaspora as key platforms through which Asante and Ghanaian culture have been projected internationally.

“These efforts have strengthened diaspora relations, enhanced Ghana’s international profile, promoted tourism and positioned our traditions as subjects of global academic and cultural study,” Mr. Yohuno stated.

He said the Asantehene’s presence at the Police Headquarters marked a significant turning point for the Ghana Police Service, stressing that the historic honour was one the Service and the entire nation held in the highest esteem.

Mr. Yohuno reaffirmed the Police Service’s appreciation of Otumfuo’s leadership and legacy, noting that his visit symbolizes the enduring partnership between traditional authority and state institutions in advancing national development, unity and security.
