President John Dramani Mahama has strongly condemned the recent attack on a journalist with Class Media, describing such acts as unacceptable in a democratic society.

Speaking during a visit to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), the President emphasized his personal commitment to press freedom, noting that as a trained journalist himself, he would not countenance attacks on media practitioners in the line of duty.

“The government will not tolerate assaults on journalists,” President Mahama stated, adding that the media plays a critical role in serving the public interest and must be protected. He disclosed that the government is working closely with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the security services to address the situation and prevent future occurrences. According to him, there is also the need to reorient security personnel to view journalists as partners in national development rather than adversaries.

President Mahama further revealed that officers implicated in the recent incidents have been identified, interdicted, and are currently under investigation.

He assured journalists and the general public of the government’s commitment to safeguarding press freedom and ensuring accountability for any violations against media professionals.
