The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of secretly introducing LGBTQ-related content into Ghana’s school curriculum.
The Assin South MP made the allegation in a social media post on Tuesday, January 13, criticising the printing and distribution of teacher manuals and other teaching and learning materials (TLMs) to schools.
According to Rev. Fordjour, the NDC has “mischievously and deliberately smuggled LGBTQ agenda into the curriculum,” despite the party’s public stance opposing LGBTQ issues. He alleged that the materials were designed to promote LGBTQ sexuality education in schools, which he said contradicts Ghanaian cultural and moral values.
“The NDC has printed and distributed Teacher Manuals and other Teaching and Learning Materials to promote LGBTQ, contrary to their deceptive rhetoric of being the party which abhors LGBTQ,” he stated.
Rev. Fordjour called for the immediate recall of all teacher manuals and textbooks he believes propagate the agenda, both in print and online. He also urged that affected portions of the curriculum be reviewed and revised without delay.
He cautioned the government against using the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and the Ministry of Education to advance what he described as a “vile and evil agenda.”
Rev. Ntim Fordjour linked the alleged curriculum changes to delays in Parliament, suggesting the situation explains why the private member’s Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill has not yet been placed on the Order Paper.
Describing the matter as “diabolical and dangerous,” Rev. Fordjour called on the public to oppose what he sees as an attempt to undermine Ghana’s values through the education system.
