Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) President Samuel Eto’o has been slapped with a four-match ban following alleged misconduct during Cameroon’s 2–0 loss to host nation Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations last Friday, according to a statement from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Eto’o was reportedly observed making an angry gesture in protest over refereeing decisions in the presence of CAF President Patrice Motsepe. The incident occurred amid tense scenes in which players from both teams were involved in jostling, prompting CAF to announce on Sunday that investigations had been opened into violent confrontations during AFCON matches.

CAF’s disciplinary board also imposed a $20,000 fine on Eto’o, a sanction FECAFOOT has described as “lacking any explicit justification.” In a statement issued on Thursday, the federation criticised the disciplinary process, saying the expedited procedure “raises serious concerns regarding the fundamental requirements of a fair process,” and confirmed it would appeal the decision.

“FECAFOOT reaffirms its support for its president and its commitment to respecting the principles governing credible disciplinary justice,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, tournament hosts Morocco are set to face Senegal in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
