Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, has signed a US$12.83 million grant agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to support feasibility studies for key infrastructure projects under the government’s Big Push programme.

The agreement was signed on Thursday, January 29, and will fund detailed preparatory works for major road, market, and agro-industrial projects across the country.

Among the projects to benefit is a proposed interchange at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, aimed at easing traffic congestion in the area.

The grant will also support the redevelopment of major markets, including Agbogbloshie, Techiman, Sekondi, and Mankessim Markets, to improve trading conditions and enhance local economic activity.

In addition, the funding will cover feasibility studies for the establishment of Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZs) in the Afram Plains, Nsawam, and Builsa, as part of efforts to boost agro-processing, create jobs, and add value to agricultural produce.

According to Ato Forson, the grant will be used to finance comprehensive feasibility studies, including full engineering designs, cost estimates, and environmental and social impact assessments, to ensure the projects are fully prepared for construction.

He expressed gratitude to the African Development Bank and its Country Manager, Eyerusalem Fasika, for the institution’s strong partnership and continued support for Ghana’s development agenda.

Ato Forson noted that government’s goal is to complete the studies early enough to allow construction to commence in the near future, reinforcing its commitment to accelerated infrastructure development under the Big Push initiative.
