Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has arrived in Latvia for a two-day official visit to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Ghanaian student Nana Agyei Ahyia, a case he has described as distressing and unclear.

In a Facebook post, Mr. Ablakwa said Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Baiba Braže, has assured him of the Latvian government’s full cooperation in efforts to uncover the truth and ensure justice.

The Minister explained that the visit fulfils a pledge he made to Ghanaians to personally follow up on the matter. He is leading a six-member delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a forensic expert, and a pathologist to support ongoing investigations.

Two family members of the deceased, who were expected to travel with the delegation, were initially unable to depart on Saturday night due to delays in visa processing.

Mr. Ablakwa confirmed that the visas were issued on Sunday, and the family members are scheduled to travel later that night to join the team on Monday morning.

During the visit, the delegation is expected to hold key meetings on Monday with Latvia’s Ministries of Interior and Education, as well as investigators handling the case. The engagements are aimed at shedding light on the circumstances of Nana Agyei Ahyia’s death and providing closure for his family.
