The Ghana Police Service has handed over a bag containing GHC85,000.00 to its rightful owner after it was found along the Techiman-Kumasi Highway in the Bono East Region.

In a statement signed by ASP Appiah Danquah, Regional Police Public Relations Officer on Tuesday, February 17, the police explained that the bag was discovered in the early hours of February 14, 2026, at about 04:20 a.m., by officers on duty at a Police Snap Check Point on the highway.

The bag, which had possibly fallen from a moving vehicle, was lying by the roadside with the name “Ofori” and a phone number written on it.

The duty officers, led by Inspector George Appiah and three other personnel, retrieved the bag and upon inspection realised it contained a large sum of money.

The bag was subsequently handed over to the Regional Command for further investigation.

Police contacted the phone number written on the bag, and a 53-year-old businessman from Ashtown, Kumasi, who identified himself as Stephen Ofori, responded and later reported to the check point to claim ownership.

Mr. Ofori told police that the GHC85,000 was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle.

The cash was counted and verified in the presence of the claimant and confirmed to be GHC85,000.00.

After providing satisfactory explanation and undergoing further verification, the police released the full amount to him.

The Police Command commended the officers involved and members of the community who assisted in bringing the matter to the attention of the authorities.
