Her performance builds on an impressive freshman season in which she won the 2025 NCAA Division II outdoor 800m national title.

Other Ghanaian athletes also contributed significantly to the Lady Buffs’ triumph.

Helena Klutsey-Carboo placed third in the 200m in 24.09 seconds, while Deborah Acheampong won silver in the 60m final with a time of 7.51.

In the distance events, Sarah Koomson finished third in the mile (5:01.27), and Naomi Addo captured gold in the 3,000m with a winning time of 10:05.10.In total, the Lady Buffs recorded 10 individual event titles in Albuquerque.

The team now turns its attention to the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships scheduled for March 13–14 in Virginia Beach, where Abugire will aim to add to her growing list of collegiate honours.
