The Board of Chair of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre and a Former Minister of State Hon. Akwasi Opong-Fosu has accepted an invitation to serve as Patron of the Volta Regional Students’ Association, Ghana (VORSAG), following a courtesy call by the association’s National Executive Committee (NEC). The delegation, led by Organizing Secretary and Public Relations Officer, met with Opong-Fosu to introduce their newly constituted leadership and outline plans to reposition VORSAG as a platform for student unity and regional development.

The NEC briefed him on preparations for the official relaunch of VORSAG National, scheduled for August 2026 at Ho Technical University in the Volta Region. The leadership described the relaunch as part of a broader vision to inspire responsible student leadership and strengthen the association’s role in advancing regional heritage and national cohesion.

During the engagement, Hon. Opong-Fosu underscored what he described as a “growing concern about the declining sense of patriotism and nationalism within Ghana’s public service and civic life.” He urged the student leaders to remain committed to values of service, integrity, and responsibility, stressing that “true leadership must be anchored in conviction, since conviction inspires courage, principled action, and a deeper sense of responsibility to society.”

The NEC sought his guidance and mentorship as they embark on what they termed a renewed journey to strengthen the association. Hon. Opong-Fosu commended the team for their initiative and vision, pledging his support toward the successful relaunch and future growth of VORSAG. “I look forward to seeing the association continue to promote unity, leadership, and heritage among students from the Volta Region and across Ghana,” he said.

The Volta Regional Students’ Association, historically a unifying body for students from the Volta Region, has faced challenges in recent years. The new leadership aims to restore its relevance by positioning the association as a hub for student activism, leadership training, and regional development initiatives. The August relaunch is expected to draw participation from student leaders, alumni, and regional stakeholders.

Hon. Opong-Fosu’s acceptance as Patron signals a renewed partnership between experienced public servants and emerging student leaders. His emphasis on conviction and patriotism reflects broader debates in Ghana about the role of civic values in governance and public service. For VORSAG, the endorsement provides both symbolic legitimacy and practical mentorship as it seeks to reassert its influence in student affairs.

The NEC’s visit and the forthcoming relaunch highlight a generational effort to restore trust and renew hope in student leadership structures. With Hon. Opong-Fosu’s backing, VORSAG is positioning itself to play a more prominent role in shaping the next wave of Ghanaian leaders.
