The Office of the President in Accra on Monday, March 16, 2026, held the 47th Change of Guards Ceremony, marking the official transfer of guard duty from the Ghana Air Force to the Ghana Army.

The ceremony, held at the forecourt of the Presidency, marks the first Change of Guards in 2026, following the last ceremony held in December 2025. The highly regarded tradition reflects the state’s commitment to maintaining a strong and disciplined security presence to safeguard the Presidency.

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, together with senior state officials, attended the colourful ceremony which showcased the precision, discipline and coordination of Ghana’s security forces.

During their tenure, the outgoing Ghana Air Force guards managed security for a number of key national functions held at the Presidency, including the Women in Government and Media Forum and the 69th Independence Day Parade.

The Change of Guards ceremony is a long-standing military tradition that allows the various branches of the Ghana Armed Forces to take turns in providing ceremonial and operational security at the Presidency, while also demonstrating professionalism and unity within the country’s security architecture.

The incoming Ghana Army guard is expected to assume responsibility for the protection of the Presidency and other state engagements over the next quarter.
