The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into an alleged assault on a Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) officer captured in a viral video.

In a press statement issued on March 21, 2026, the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team indicated that it had reviewed footage showing the incident, which has since circulated widely online.

Preliminary findings reveal that the incident occurred on Friday, March 20, 2026, at about 10:05 a.m.

The victim, Sergeant Emmanuel Agbugbla Teye of the Kaneshie Accident Squad of the MTTD, reported that while on duty, he spotted a motorbike with registration number M-26-GR-1024 riding on the wrong side of the road and dangerously facing oncoming traffic from Kaneshie Mpaprom towards the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange.

The officer attempted to stop the rider for questioning following reports of motorbike-related hit-and-run incidents involving pedestrians in the area.

During the intervention, a group of motorbike riders reportedly arrived at the scene and physically assaulted the officer before fleeing.

The Police Service has assured that all individuals involved in the attack will be pursued, arrested, and dealt with in accordance with the law.

The statement further reiterated a caution to the public that assaulting a uniformed officer is a criminal offence under the laws of Ghana.
