The Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has arrested a young man, identified as Ebenezer Frimpong, for allegedly attempting to steal a police armoured vehicle in a daring daytime incident at Nkawie Market.
The suspect reportedly took advantage of a brief security lapse when the police driver stepped out to purchase medication, leaving the vehicle’s engine running.
Reports indicate that Frimpong allegedly entered the armoured vehicle and drove off, triggering a swift response from a nearby police patrol team, which immediately pursued him.
The chase ended at Mim, near Abuakwa in the Kumasi enclave, where a SWAT team intercepted and arrested the suspect, successfully retrieving the vehicle.
Police say the armoured vehicle has since been secured, while the suspect remains in custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations.
