Ghana and South Korea have signed a historic Visa Waiver Agreement covering holders of diplomatic and service passports, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
In a statement shared on the official Facebook page of Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the agreement was signed during the ongoing Africa-Korea Foreign Ministers Meeting, where he and South Korea’s Foreign Minister, Cho Hyun, formalised the arrangement.
The deal allows visa-free travel for diplomatic and service passport holders from both Ghana and South Korea.
Negotiations are expected to continue toward extending the waiver to include holders of ordinary passports in the future.
The agreement is the first visa waiver arrangement between the two countries in nearly 50 years of formal diplomatic relations.
The Foreign Minister noted that the development reflects progress on key priorities following President John Dramani Mahama’s working visit to South Korea in March this year, which helped deepen cooperation between the two nations.
