Liberty Players Boycott Training Ahead of Crucial Last Game

Players of Ghana Premier league side, Liberty Professionals have threatened to boycott Sunday’s final league game against Bechem United, after the club failed to pay their four-months salaries and bonuses.

According to a close source, all the registered first team players did not turn up to training this morning after management of the club failed to honour their promise of meeting the playing body yesterday morning  to discuss the best way forward.

“The situation we find ourselves in is very pitiful. We demand our salary arrears for the past 4 months and some of our winning bonuses and have decided to put down our boots,” said one player who preferred to be anonymous.

“We have managed to cope with the situation so far, but the condition persists, and we believe the club is not ready to feel our pain, therefore we’ve also to do what we think is best for us because the league is about to finish and we don’t know what will happen if we don’t get it before everything comes to a close.”

Liberty Professionals are in danger of dropping to Division One for the first time history since they joined the Premier league in 1997 as they lie in lowly 14th position with 35 points, and will have to beat Bechem United at the Karl Reindorf Park to have a chance of maintaining their status.
