The government has unveiled an Independent Oil and Gas Information Resource Centre(IOGIRC) to disseminate information about the sector to enhance transparency in the fledgling oil and gas industry.
The independent centre is an institution set up by the World Bank as an interactive space for  sharing information on the Ghana’s oil and gas sector.
The centre offers a range of information in areas such as regulations, oil and gas agreements, oil and gas companies, oil fields and the role of non –government organizations and government agencies in the sector.
The centre is expected to keep all sector players abreast with the technical, strategic and commercial issues that affect the downstream sector of oil and gas.
Speaking at the launch of the centre after two years in operations in Accra, the Deputy Minister for Energy, Mohammed Amin Anta said   the centre is comprehensive resource centre for doing forecast analysis in the oil and gas.
He explained that Ghana is gradually becoming the reference point for oil and gas in the Africa  even though the country begun oil exploration some six years ago.
The sector contains technical issues that must be appropriately understood by the players in the sector he stressed.
He noted that the centre will ensure transparency and accountability in the sector so that the country will not fall the oil syndrome.
He expressed his pleasure to be part of the launch and commended the managers of the centre for a good work done.
He cautioned the managers of the centre to be wary of the some of the materials they publish from the media on the site of the centre.
On his part, Alex Kyei , the Chief Executive Officer of Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project is a data collection platform that will help in educating Civil Society Organizations as well as the members  of Public Interest Accountability Committee (PIAC).
He said sometimes the government churn information about the sector and people outside the government begin to suspect the information is inaccurate but now such information can be verified on the platform.
The Chairman of the occasion, Kwame Gyantuah commended the centre for making the platform available.
He urged the general public to make use of the centre and demand accountability in the sector.
He said over three billion has been recorded from the oil proceeds and Ghanaians are still claiming they have not seen anything from the revenue from oil.
