Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Martin B.K.A Amidu has observed that corruption is the country’s number one enemy and it must be fought with the wherewithal.
“Fighting corruption is important than protecting the Constitution”, he told members of Parliamentary Appointment Committee during vetting during his vetting on Tuesday.
According to the anti-corruption crusader and a private legal practitioner, corruption is something everyone must fight against since it has a negative toll on the activities of the citizenry.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last month named Mr. Martin Amidu as the special prosecutor pending parliamentary vetting and approval.
The president in announcing the name said he received the nomination from the Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo and has accepted the nominee, whose name will be forwarded to Parliament for approval.
Mr. Amidu has earned the nickname ‘Citizen Vigilante’ for his no-nonsense stance and campaign against corruption, particularly in his own party National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor will have the mandate to investigate and prosecute cases of alleged corruption under the Public Procurement Act 203 Act 63 and other corruption-related offences implicating public officers, political office holders and their accomplices in the public sector.
