To help minimize domestic violence occurrences, celebrated Dance hall artiste Samini has instituted the ‘Obimbra’ foundation to embark on a project to help eliminate the alarming increase in domestic violence.
The foundation focuses on fronting the campaign against domestic violence and being the voice of the voiceless by using strategic approaches and initiatives.
Africa 1 Media and Empire Group are in this with Samini with the support of EIB Network.
The foundation is set to celebrate fifty heroines in style on Mothers Day.
Selected women will be showered with gifts and lots of love. They will also be encouraged and entertained at an event specially for them.
Domestic violence is prevalent in Ghana
In some cultural beliefs it is socially acceptable for men to discipline their wives physically. These beliefs play a major role in this unfortunate happening
Around one in three women in Ghana are likely to exeprience domestic violence.
The fear of being accused of provocation and being ridiculed leaves victims harbouring untold physical, emotional and psychological scars.
They are forced to endure the torture of living in cycles of threat and abuse.
For close to fifteen years, Samini has stayed relevant by carving a niche for himself and consistently maintaining his standards of making quality music like ‘Linda,’ ‘Odo,’ ‘My Own’, among others.
The Obimbra Foundation is built upon the Akan word ‘Obimbra’ which is ‘a cry for help’
