"Nyantakyi did nothing wrong to warrant arrest," Former deputy Sports Minister

Former deputy Sports Minister Joseph Yamin has jumped to the defence of Kwesi Nyantakyi over charges of “defrauding by false pretenses” charges leveled against him.
On Tuesday, president Nana Addo ordered for the arrest of the president of the Ghana Football Association after he was found to have peddled in all forms of corruption including defrauding by false pretence using the name of the President.
Reports indicated that the directive follows an investigative piece by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
His latest film dubbed ‘Number 12’, which is yet to be screened publicly, is believed to be containing incriminating evidence which shows Nyantekyi took money from people and promised them that he will “give the President of Ghana some of it” and also guaranteed them access to Nana Akufo-Addo.
However, during an interview with Ohene Bampoe–Brenya on Happy FM‘s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Joseph Yamin, who is a known critic of the beleaguered FA capo, believes there’s nothing wrong with what Nyantakyi ‘supposedly’ stated in the said video.
“I had the opportunity to listen to the statement that came from the deputy Chief of Staff yesterday, Abu Jinapor, however from my point of view I don’t think Kwesi tried to stifle money from the investors,” Yamin told Happy FM.
“The meaning of his assertion is that some people wanted to invest in Ghana and he believed it may require the president’s involvement, though I’m not a law student, I don’t think the usage of false pretence was the right word. The presidency is weak that’s why Kwesi made that statement.”
“Kwesi didn’t say give me the money but only said I know people who can help get the job the done easily, is that defrauding? So I don’t understand this arrest thing.”
“If there are evidences that may lock Kwesi then I think the names that came up from the video should equally face the same consequences. However, those people are still in working at the Jubille House…Asensuo’s name popped up in the video but he is still at post likewise Anthony Karbo. I have heard Kennedy Agyepong say that before you see the president you have to pay $20,000, was he arrested,” he deduced.
