Italian coach Fabio Lopez has intimated to Happy FM, desire to coach the Black Stars because he believes the job is “more fascinating” than any other on the continent.
The 43-year-old whose last coaching job was in the Omani league with for Al Orouba during the 2016 season says the potential the Black Stars possess would complement his technical acumen when given the nod.
“What particularly struck me was how good the players are and enthusiasm of the supporters because I was at the World Cup in Brazil and I saw how passionate you rally behind your team.”
“I’ve coached in several clubs and one national team[Bangladesh] and with the experience I’ve gathered I think I’ll succeed when I get the opportunity. I believe with just four matches to finish the World Cup qualifiers, I can help the country realize its dreams, I’m no magician but the methodology I will bring can qualify the country,” Fabio said on Happy FM.
When quizzed on his assessment on Black Stars’ head coach Avram Grant and if he’d fare better than him when indeed he gets the job, he said, “As a professional man, I wouldn’t want to judge the work of my fellow coach because we show respect to our fellow colleagues, but in opinion I think at the moment, in the short term he can improve the tactical aspect of the team because that’s the most important part in the qualifiers. I’m sure Ghana can improve because the players have a lot experience in Europe, so I believe with my Italian mentality we can be a good match. Who wouldn’t want this ‘fascinating job’ in world football.”
Lopez has experiences as youth coach of many Italian academy clubs and he is noted for being accurate at detail work training, and physical training specialist and computer literacy.
