Lawyer John Kumah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), has called for a change in the pattern of creating jobs in Ghana.

According to him, it is time students contributed to changing the paradigm of job creation by focusing on ideas that can bring massive changes capable of reducing the unemployment situation in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, Mr. Kumah said the Nana Addo led government is willing to support the youth who want to start-up a business with a number of interventions including access to funding, access to market and creating the enabling environment for their businesses to thrive.

“I would like to emphasize at this point that we need ideas from students and graduates who can bring massive changes for job creation through private enterprises in Ghana. The government is ever ready to support with a number of interventions including access to funding, access to the market and creating the enabling environment for SMEs to grow,” he said.

Early this year, President Nana Addo presented a seed capital to 1,350 small and medium scale businesses under the Presidential Business Support Programme.

The president in his speech said, he was “encouraged by the numbers of young Ghanaians wanting to start their own businesses.’’ He added that all the 7,000 businesses underwent a well-structured training programme to build their managerial capacities for their various ventures, with the training programmes conducted in fifty private incubation hubs across the country.

The successful 1,350 winners, according to President Akufo-Addo, were competitively selected upon the recommendations of the private incubation hubs in a transparent, efficient and equitable manner.
