American multinational information technology company, Hewlett-Packard (HP) has honoured Professor Douglas Boateng, Africa’s first Professor Extraordinaire in Supply and Value Chain Management, with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The citation read: “Remarkable selfless, worldwide academic social and corporate citizenry initiatives plus courage and unyielding determination and success in making policy makers, public and private sector leaders further appreciate the link between supply chain management and the UN sustainability development goals”.

Mr Emmanuel Eze of HP Incorporated thanked Prof Boateng for his quest to contribute economically in the progress of Africa and beyond.

“Looking at the continent and the problems we face, we need people like Prof Boateng who can dedicate his time which is the most important commodity for the progress of Africa and the world,” he said.

The Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Prof. Douglas Boateng was recognized for his extraordinary contribution to regional, national and continental socio-economic development in Africa. In particular, his commitment to a promotion of regional and continental collaboration for long-term socio-economic success.

He was honoured during the launch of the second edition of the world’s first compendium on Supply Chain Management (SCM) book titled “Executive Insights Series: Compendium of Supply Chain Management Terms”.

Speaking to the award, Prof. Douglas Boateng said “I am very elated by the recognition from HP. This award is just not for me but for all professional colleagues that are passionate about the role of supply chain management in the long-term socio-economic development of Africa.”

According to him it is a proven and acceptable fact globally that supply chain management and long-term industrialisation are inextricably linked stating that. “If we are to build a better future for the next generation, governments and c-suite executives certainly cannot afford to continue to under rate the strategic importance of supply chain management”

Professor BOATENG affirmed that globally the implementation of supply chain management continues to help public and private executives, policy makers and government transform their respective organisations, industries, nations and even continents

The compendium on supply chain management can be found in most of the top 50 global business schools including Harvard, MIT, Oxford, LBS, Warwick, CEIBS, Stanford and also in all recognised African business schools.

The compendium has been supported and endorsed by leading local, regional and global organisations including the United Nations world food program, Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, the various regional and international Accounting, Engineering, Manufacturing, Surveying and law professional bodies, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Association of African Business Schools to name but a few.

The launch was sponsored by amongst others, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Labadi Hotel, Exim Bank, UNISA-SBL, and the Lanele Group.
