Government has settled about 80 per cent of disgruntled customers of the defunct DKM microfinance who lost their funds after its collapse two years ago.
According to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, the remaining 20 per cent are in the process to reach an agreement with the liquidator whiles a fund has been set at the bank of Ghana to settle them.
Ken Ofori-Atta made the disclosure during the presentation of the 2019 budget and economic policies of the government in parliament.
He revealed that the liquidator received in excess of 99,885 claims amounting to after GHS 502.1 million after validation.
Mr Ofori-Atta said, “Mr. Speaker I would like to inform the country that out of the 99,858 claims, 79,708 (80 per cent) have been settled and depositors have been paid.
The Government has set aside funds at the Bank of Ghana to pay the remaining 20 per cent of depositors upon validation. An additional 12,612 claims have been fully provided for, but the customers have not as yet been able to show proof of deposit.”
