Vice chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Alex Ackumey has expressed his belief that the introduction of a novelty competition by the Normalisation Committee will lessen burden on local clubs.

The Normalisation Committee will meet representatives of Premier and Division One clubs at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) secretariat on Tuesday, January 8.

The meeting will look at the format and modalities of the special competition for the clubs which is set to commence this month.

The new competition is scheduled to start on January 26, 2019, and it will involve all 16 Premier League clubs as well as 48 clubs in the second-tier.

In an interview with Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Happy FM‘s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Mr. Ackumey, who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer of second-tier side New Edubiase United, believes the competition has come at a right time to help clubs.

“Those who have suffered in all of the problems we are facing is the players and coaches so it’s a good thing that we’ll be having a competition for the players,” Ackumey stated on Happy FM.

“I have penned down things I’ll be talking about in today’s meeting. I’ve high expectations from the meeting.”

“I believe the Normalisation Committee have all the modalities and committees set up for this special competition because we can’t have a competition without a committee.”

He added, “In the wisdom of the Normalisation Committee, if they believe RAG is in a good place to appoint referees, then we can’t challenge them.”

“The law doesn’t allow anyone to reduce his or her age so I am pleading with anyone who have an evidence to come forward with it because these things won’t help our game.”

Football activities in Ghana have been on hold since the airing of the Number 12 documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas in June.

Following the documentary, the Kwesi Nyantakyi-led Ghana Football Association was dissolved by the government with FIFA appointing the Normalization Committee to steer the affairs of the country’s football.
