Kantamanto Fire Outbreak: President Mahama tasks National Fire Service to install CCTV cameras at vantage points in every market

The three high profile murders over the past three weeks offer lessons worthy of study. Although not all the facts are known, on the face of the public information available, there are security lessons.

  1. When you are alone in an office building or in an office area without the presence of a PA or Secretary to screen visitors, it may be prudent to lock your door. A locked door may not prevent physical harm but it may delay the attacker to such an extent that he/she may eventually postpone action.

This advise is particularly critical for those who work late and for those who work during weekends and holidays.

  1. We can never know the evil intent of the people who live with us but when ladies are in the house alone, they should not have house boys around. The mere presence of a male who is not a very close relative should create discomfort for any woman.

As much as possible women who live alone should have young girls as house helps. Men who live alone can have houseboys

  1. Question strangers in your area. Ahmed’s assassins spent over 7 hours in the vicinity of his house. No one asked them any questions. No alarm was raised.
  2. Several situations call for a heightened sense of security…
  • driving home at night
  • living alone
  • picking public transport alone at night
  • engaging strangers to work in your house
  • entering your car after it has been parked for a while

If you happen to find yourself in any of these situations, you should be suspicious of everything until you are safe in your room.

A final word…

Run a security check every night before you go to bed. Ensure all windows are locked (in fact lockable) and double-check that doors and gates are secured. One unlocked window (or unlockable window) is all it takes to give an evil person the advantage.

A last check on windows and doors can save you and your loved ones.

One of the police emergency numbers is 18555
