Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah, a flagbearer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has explicitly stated that poor communication caused NDC’s defeat during the 2016 general elections.

In an interview on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political show, Dr. Spio- Gabbrah said, “a major cause of our defeat during the 2016 presidential election was our slogans.”

According to him, whilst the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was using meaningful slogans like ‘One District One Factory’, ‘One Village One Dam’ among others, our slogans were fanciful like ‘Onaapo’, ‘JM Toaso’ and ‘Edey bee K3k3′ among others. These slogans, he said, did not resonate with right thinking members of the society.

“The campaign slogans of the NPP resonated with even the average Ghanaians as they were understandable and made sense as compared to the slogans of the NDC. The communication used by the NDC was less effective,” he added.

However, the NPP obtained a staggering 5,716,609 of total votes cast in the 2016 elections, representing 53.84%, to snatch the Presidency from the then ruling NDC with 4,713,277 votes (44.40%).
According media reports NDC’s performance during the 2016 elections was its worst since 1992.
